All About The Woman: Agent Provocateur AW15 Campaign
This season, Agent Provocateur is all about the woman. If Coco Chanel based her entire aesthetic on finding the woman in the dress, then Agent Provocateur’s creative director Sarah Shotton has sought the woman in the lingerie.
It’s what we’ve done from Day 1 since AP first opened its doors in London’s Soho in 1994.
In a return to the old-school values that have underpinned Agent Provocateur’s aesthetic since the beginning, the focus for Autumn Winter is on iconic, naturally sexy women, who have each embodied their eras and embodied womanhood in their own unique ways. So forget the frills and fripperies, the studs and the sequins, and slip into something more sensual, like our all-woman AW15 icons.
The Woman: Surely the woman for whom the term va-va-voom was invented, Sophia Loren’s intoxicating mix of feline eyes and logic-defying curves (all down to a diet of spaghetti and red wine) was all the more enhanced in her utterly sumptuous lingerie trappings: corset, stockings, and pearls.
The Lingerie: One can easily imagine the Italian actress pouring her glorious proportions into the barely-there Laretta in her golden era.
The Woman: Basinger’s strip tease in 9 ½ weeks cemented the status of the simple silk negligee as an icon in a woman’s lingerie wardrobe. Sweet, feminine and tongue-in-cheek, her deliciously soft-focused sexuality continues to captivate and inspire today.
The Lingerie: The Willa – a frothy-but-feisty set in midnight blue lace and chiffon, with a delectably retro teddy to romp around in.
The Woman: Sexy in the early 90’s was short, tight, busty and body-con. Sexy in the 90’s, in short, was Cindy Crawford. Easily one of the most bodacious bodies to ever grace our screens and billboards, her enduring appeal has inspired generations of healthy, body-confident women to work out and feel sexier for it.
The Lingerie: 90’s honeys will favour high-octane push-up styles such as the Molly, now re-imagined in delicious fuchsia.
The Woman: Lara Stone’s Botticellian beauty shattered the fashion industry’s waifish aspirations when the gap-toothed, Bardot-alike Dutch beauty first broke into the industry at age 17. It’s her uncompromising womanliness that has kept her at the top of the highest earning models since then.
The Lingerie: The streamlined shape of the Mona dress is a scene-stealer for any modern bombshell – in a rich navy duchesse silk trimmed with peach crystals, it features a dramatically low-cut back so that her exit is just as racy as her entrance to the room.
