Underwear as outerwear is a trend that’s seductively slipped itself into my fashion radar recently – probably something to do with the fact I now work for the sexiest lingerie brand on the planet (Agent Provocateur) so I picked up on the copious amounts of flirty sheer tulles, intricate lace embellishments and feminine fifties shapes seen on the catwalks this season.
Burberry Prorsum ‘Functionregalia’ spring/summer show was perfectly fitting to this trend with its super-feminine collection presented at Kensington Gardens last week. My personal highlights were; a long sleeved polkadot fit & flare dress in sheer black fabric, cinched in at the waist with a thin yellow belt – noted this dress on its own is totally impractical for day-to-day, however worn with a figure hugging big brief and the right push up bra could turn a multitude of heads on the dance-floor. Next up favourite was a maroon brown maxi dress with revealing front features – elegantly versatile, this lightweight sheer throw over works as a great ensemble for evening walks along the beach in a far away destination.
A nod to the 90s grunge era was apparent with my next favourite, highlighted by fishnet inserts and intricate lattice textures in gothic black, shifting toward more risque styling like its sheer fabric cut revealing the bust line. Last but not least favourite, a smock dress featuring a black lattice panel on top of intricate black lace, layered under a classic Burberry trench coat – the finishing touch to any modern females wardrobe.
